According to MIT’s Technology Review, Broadcom has just rolled out a chip for smartphones that promises to indicate location ultra-precisely, possibly within a few centimeters, vertically and horizontally, indoors and out. “It could show you where the bananas are within a store – even on which shelf there’s a specific brand.” said Charlie Abraham, vice president of engineering at Broadcom.   1. Based on some recent press, this ultra-precise pinpointing does carry major security problems if the data is not ultra-secured. For instance, that data if aggregated or hacked into, could be used to target children, women and the otherwise unwary. My understanding is that already GPS data is being misused in this manner. Requesting expert technical opinion!
