Your weekend robot fix: iRobot and InTouch Health go 'joint'

No, this isn’t a new ‘joint’ for robot mobility or a place where they hang out…Massachusetts-based iRobot (best known for the Roomba vacuum cleaning robot, but also industrial robots) and the InTouch Health telemedicine network at end of week announced their joint development and licensing agreement to, as they put it, “explore potential opportunities for healthcare applications on iRobot platforms such as the iRobot Ava mobile robotics platform.” InTouch Health already provides telemedicine ‘remote presence’ and based on this Investors’ Business Daily article we covered back in April [TA 1 April], both companies have had their challenges in the telemedicine robotics market. Let’s hope that their new alliance enables them to complement each other. iRobot’s healthcare gambit moves forward.
