75% of the children of Western Texas live more than 90 miles from the nearest hospital and to address the problems of access the Texas Tech University Health Science Center (TTUHSC) runs a program known as the Children’s Healthcare Access in Rural Texas (CHART). It is the only program of its kind in Texas. This AMD press release indicates that the program is being extended to an additional 30 rural sites.
