81% of US physicians will have smartphones by 2012–up 16 points from 2009–and half of this group will use their devices for administrative functions, continuing education and patient care. Adoption is driven by physician-oriented apps and content–and is also moving past hospital staff to smaller private practices and into iPhones and Androids from BlackBerry.
