MedilinkUK is a national network of regionally-based independent organisations working for the common goal of raising the profile of the medical and healthcare sectors. In recent years it has held regional and national award ceremonies to recognise companies that demonstrate healthcare excellence and innovation. This year’s “healthcare technologies sector’s equivalent to the Oscars” (to quote Medilink) were held in London on Monday 16th March and the nominees for each of the five awards – Export Achievement, Innovation, Growth in Sector, Partnership with the NHS and Start Up – came from the winners from the regional Medilink Awards.
Winner of the Growth in Sector Award was telecare company Tynetec. Throughout 2008 it increased its turnover by 29.9% demonstrating a strong business strategy, product innovation and customer partnership. Tynetec’s entire product range is designed and manufactured in the UK. Tynetec’s MD Tony Platten commented “As a company that has been trading for 30 years, achieving a growth award is quite something.” And his advice to the more youthful companies present? “Having survived three previous recessions it is vitally important to continue investment in R&D through such difficult periods”.
Cardiff-based Home Telehealth Ltd walked off with the Partnership with the NHS Award by working successfully with NHS commissioners. The company has delivered a decrease in hospital admissions, a reduction in the number of hospital beds used, the length of time patients stay in hospital, and the number of visits made by GPs.
Peter Range, MD of Home Telehealth Limited said “We are delighted to have received recognition from MediLink UK that the telehealth services we are providing are making a significant difference to peoples’ lives and are also helping to reduce costs in health and social care delivery in the UK.”
