Cute sensor fashions now for baby

onesie with sensorsWith Fashion Week about to start in Editor Donna’s NYC, we cannot give you Spring 2013 Tommy Hilfiger, Carmen Marc Valvo or Carolina Herrera, but instead we can preview the possibly first-ever baby sensor garment. It was inevitable that there would be a baby ‘onesie’ that would monitor vital signs such as breathing, movement, temperature and sleep position. Developed by Rest Devices (formerly Nyx), the system will package three onesies, a turtle-shaped transmitter that clips to the front with magnets (a disincentive to stomach sleeping) and a plug-in base station to connect to home Wi-Fi for a go-to-market price of $100-200. Rest Devices had also developed the Somnus sleep shirt for sleep quality monitoring [TA 25 May], but has relegated this to the research market. Their plans, according to Boston.com, are to go to market with the baby system in the near future direct through their website and Amazon.com–and raise additional funding beyond their $500,000 to date. It seems like an easy sell as parents will open the wallet wide when it comes to baby safety. Besides, it may be….the cutest tech product in town?
