California Telehealth Network operational soon

With California mainly in the news for financial problems and bad weather, it’s nice to hear something hopeful. The California Telehealth Network (CTN), which launched in August 2010, will be fully operational by early this month. 25 medical facilities are now connected to a broadband network, which will enable staff to use telemedicine to consult with specialist physicians from the eight UC medical centers, as well as a few private hospitals, such as Stanford University and the University of Southern California (USC). In addition, CTN and University of California-Davis have a second broadband grant which will be used to link less conventional facilities–for instance, for community clinics or even libraries to test people and send their health information to primary care physicians.
