Lifetime Achievement Award for telemedicine pioneer (France)

An ISfTeH Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Prof. Louis Lareng (France) at the occasion of the Med-e-Tel 2012 Opening Ceremony on April 18th. Prof. Lareng is a Telemedicine and eHealth pioneer and at the age of 89 still active as Administrator of the GCS Télésanté Midi-Pyrénées in France.

Prof. Lareng studied medicine in Toulouse and became an anaesthetist-resuscitator. As pioneer of the emergency departments in France, he was the creator of the Emergency Medical Service “SAMU” (Service d’Aide Médicale Urgente) in 1967 and continued to advocate for the legal recognition of this organization by law, which finally happened in 1992.
