'Hot market: the aging population' (really)

Inc. takes a glance at keeping older people at homes, healthier in this profile of telecare veteran (2004) GrandCare Systems and CEO Charles Hillman, who developed the idea for a monitoring system back in 1993 when his elderly aunt didn’t want to bother him about the smoke in the house (her furnace on fire.) Alluded to but not named is the Continua Health Alliance, whose large corporate members’ research assisted GrandCare as an early (and tiny) member. And slowly but surely GrandCare has grown its business. HomeBase, their new in-home system, was launched this summer, incorporates telehealth monitoring from partner VRI [TA 30 July] and has already sold several hundred units.  And this editor [Donna] was pleased to see Charlie (once a competitor) receive the Mobile Health Expo 2010 Award for ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Growth and Success of Aging in Place using Mobile Health Technology’.  Certainly an encouraging story for many other companies in eHealth dodging the potholes of the early-stage road.  Article.
