Socialism: Relax, it could be coming to your living room (US)

With so many Americans hung up on the word ‘socialism’ (apparently defined as anything that whiffs of Governmental spending that benefits someone else) the title of this essay by Janis Jaquith in The Hook caught a lot of people’s attention, judging by the large number of comments which are also worth browsing. The thrust of the argument is that the cost of caring for people in this generation of older people may impoverish future generations so much that their care, when they need it, will be unaffordable and so there may come a point when people who hate ‘socialism’ may find themselves very glad of state help when looking after an aged parent. Socialism: Relax, it could be coming to your living room.
