Home health care as substitute for hospital bed?

Not exactly a revolutionary thought for our readers, but for Design News it was–and they provide an interesting perspective on the ‘home hospital’ (see comments). They position cardiac monitoring as fast-growing, including heart rate monitors and electrocardiograms (ECGs) which could fit inside a device slightly larger than a conventional Band-Aid. Corventis is coming close with its body patch monitor. Meanwhile, standards differ–with WiFi most popular in hospitals; ZigBee and Bluetooth primarily non clinical. A single standard is urgently desired. Meanwhile, Juniper Research projects 3 million patients monitored by mobile networks by 2016, so it is all moving forward on its own.
