51% of healthcare CIOs are short staffed, admit projects at risk

If you are an eHealth developer and wonder why you can’t get anyone’s attention at your target organizations’ IT departments, this CMIO report on a study by CHIME (College of Healthcare Information Management Executives) may explain why:  departments are short on staff, no end in sight and CIOs admit that the situation will negatively affect EHR adoption, ‘meaningful use’ achievement (and funding) and adoption of other clinical software.  Consultants fill some of the gaps but not all.   But why when there’s a buyer’s market in most staff?  Read to the end and find that the real culprit is no money to hire. Chicken…or egg?  CHIME: IT staff shortages affect EHR implementation, put other projects at risk
