Amber is a new telecare-type service being provided by curiously-named security and home automation company ‘Locked Up Home Security’. It is great to integrate the security, automation and telecare but, as you will see from the video below, it is cast very much in the prevalent mode of telecare marketing that perpetuates the idea that people must feel insecure at home (and therefore need technology to ‘look after’ them) rather than seeing it as a means to their liberation. And why companies erect their own marketing hurdles (company name and user-unfriendly website to name but two in this case) is a mystery.
