89 million use social media for health, 99 million 'e-empowered': study

Where are people getting their healthcare information? No surprise, they are using blogs, chat rooms, message boards and online communities. According to Manhattan Research’s tenth edition of Cybercitizen Health US, 89 million adults used social media resources for health, versus 63 million in 2008 and 38 million in 2007. iHealthBeat. In addition, 99 million Americans are categorized as ‘e-empowered’–discussing their online information with their doctor, making a healthcare decision based on online information, asking for a change in treatment and more.
