Figures published by the UK’s Department for Work and Pensions predict that one in four people aged under 16 will now live to at least 100. Just 30 years ago, more than a quarter of newborn boys were expected to die before their 65th birthday. Ministers said that the rapid rise in longevity had enormous implications for public policy in a range of areas from health to transport.
