mHealth in developing countries, Ringful

Two short, related articles from Venture Beat on mHealth applications for smartphones.  In the US, the mHealth Alliance is advocating smartphone applications for delivery of care, especially in developing countries, where cell phones are becoming widely available. Article. This article also includes my favorite question–all this data, and nowhere to go (as they put it, not being integrated into the healthcare system.)

Ringful premiered at DEMOfall 09 and offers a platform for insurers, hospitals and clinics to build their own monitoring app, for patients to upload information from their smartphones to currently available EMRs such as Google Health and Microsoft HealthVault, which stores and delivers the data to their caregiver or doctor. Like many of these companies it’s early stage and early funded, up against some impressive competition such as MedApps and Bosch’s Health Buddy. Website
