New gait sensor in test to prevent falls

In early telecare days, we looked upon integrating fall detection as the ‘holy grail’ of our systems. A rethink of detection into prevention has led to several research projects around gait analysis and movement patterns. BioSensics’ PAMSys, a wearable sensor which can be incorporated into a shirt’s waterproof pocket, monitors gait, posture and postural transition parameters to assess not only fall risk, but also quality of life, information for pain and weight management, and diabetic foot ulcer management. BioSensics’ studies with University of Arizona’s Center on Aging were announced during the WLSA Wireless Health 2012 conference. Mobihealthnews. BioSensics PAMSys website.
