Does technology mean more efficient care? Or just more care?

Interesting think piece by Dana Blankenhorn on his ZDNet blog on how technology can improve care, but not necessarily make doctors more productive and save money.  Examples:  the above-mentioned NuPhysicia’s telemedicine setups on oil rigs (a touchy subject here in the US), ‘The Internet of Things’ which are sensors and the tsunami of data they can create.  In other words, making care possible, adding more care or simply TMI (too much information) doesn’t correlate to saving money.  But his conclusion–is inconclusive.  Where technology can save money in healthcare.
