EU BRAID programme highlights people dead and undiscovered in Portugal

The website of the EU-funded BRAID programme (part of the ITC research theme ‘Cooperation’ of the 7th European Framework Programme) has noted a spate of recent stories from Portugal about people who died alone and remained undiscovered for a long time. This is somewhat surprising in a culture where people are expected to have strong social networks (real, not virtual ones) and would expect to be missed – unlike in northern Europe where neighbours tend to ‘keep themselves to themselves’. There are implications here for market opportunities for suppliers of telecare and safety confirmation systems. BRAID item: Challenges for Ageing. Website with other ‘dead and undiscovered‘ stories.
