When will the NHS wake up to telehealth?

“Stephen Dorrell who gave a good speech – he is certainly up for telehealth and all that it delivers – whether he can convince the Government to seed fund it is another matter.” The speech was linked to the launch of a 110 page report by independent consultancy 2020health, entitled HealthCare without Walls: A framework for delivering telehealth at scale. (4.5MB PDF download) (2020health webpage on the report and press release).

Frankly, this editor (Steve) has not had time to digest the report yet, so you may see more later because, if it gets the exposure in the NHS that it might, it could be an important part of its wake up process. However, I do note that the introduction says that the authors consulted widely, including with ‘the industry’, but that the report omits mention of some of the work done by significant long-standing players such as Docobo and HomeTelehealth (to name but two). I also note that companies supporting the cost of producing the report were Accenture, BT, iSoft, Medtronic, Pfizer, Tunstall, TPP and Vodafone.
