UnitedHealth Group’s telemedicine initiative in national rollout (US)

UnitedHealth Group, which serves more than 75 million people in the US, is rolling out a telemedicine initiative called Connected Care which they describe as the first nationwide network that connects patients to primary care physicians, specialists and hospitals. Using Cisco’s HealthPresence telemedicine platform [TA 2 March, 23 April] and building on their joint pilot in San Jose, it also solves another problem–reimbursement–by paying at the same rate as an office visit.  SmartPlanet interview with medical director Dr. James Woodburn
