Global telehealth device shipments to exceed 2 million by 2013

What would the week be without another telehealth market projection–this one on unit sales. InMedica Market Research projects that by 2013, total unit shipments of home-use digital blood-glucose meters, blood pressure monitors, weight scales, pulse oximeters and peak flow meters used in telehealth applications will grow to over 1.6 million. Adding in health hubs (for connectivity to land lines), the total projection is over 2 million units.  While still not mainstream, growth will be fueled by the addition of internet services to monitors.  According to the report, the US is currently the leading market (with the VA’s 30,000 subscribers the largest user), with major projects underway in the UK, the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany.  InMedica report.
