How long can 'innovative' be 'innovative'?

What hope for the NHS Innovation Fund when one of the key people charged with encouraging innovation (in this case Dr Kathy McLean, medical director with lead responsibility for innovation at NHS East Midlands: In search of new frontiers in healthcare) believes that something which I flagged up as potentially deserving being called innovative in October 2008 is – innovative? Of course, if you take your material from press releases then ‘innovative’ can get stuck in a time warp, especially if no one else is doing it. And why hasn’t Tunstall been able to sew up the care home market with its RFID buttons? Maybe it’s because there’s a low-tech alternative?
