Giraff mobile in-home telepresence

The Giraff, by Swedish robotics company Robotdalen doesn’t quite seem to me [Ed. Steve] to qualify as a robot, in that it doesn’t appear to have any on-board ‘intelligence’ but is controlled from a distance by visitors over the internet. Apart from practical matters, like how it copes with closed doors, there are issues about how much control people with it in their homes will have, and how their privacy is protected. Still, it’s an interesting development: do watch the 3½ minute video demonstration on the Giraff’s home page, and read the press release for its recent London launch. Thanks to Bob Pyke for the heads-up.
