'Virtual reality' implemented for veterans' TBI and PTSD rehab (US)

size0-army_mil-53481-2009-10-19-161027The Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment (CAREN) system will soon be available for patients at the new National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), founded through the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund.  According to the article, the CAREN system is an instrumented treadmill embedded into a ‘six degree-of-freedom motion’ platform that synchronizes in real-time with a virtual environment projected onto a large, curved screen for rehabilitation of returning veterans diagnosed with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress syndrome.
