CMIO: Telehealth gets connected (US)

CMIO Magazine’s May cover story is all about telehealth and telemedicine (slightly muddled together) in places like Alaska, Maine, with Texas-based Christus Health with hospitals in six states plus Mexico and a physician group in Maryland which became the first National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)-designated medical home practice.  It summarized through these mini-case histories that there are plenty of demonstrable improvements in care quality, better outcomes, reduced waiting times, cost savings (especially in a Federalized ‘closed system’ like AFHCAN–the Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network)…but reimbursement and credentialing across state lines remain the barriers.  CMIO.
