SmartCamp goes to Austin, awards healthcare technology

IBM’s entrepreneurial awards program, SmartCamp, donned a Stetson and visited Austin, Texas last week. Among the finalists and winners in healthcare: the overall winner was SecureWaters’ AquaSentinel, which automatically and continuously tests for toxins in source surface waters. Other awards: the People’s Vote award went to local company Waldo Health for connecting patients and clinicians [see TA 19 May for latest]; the Chamber of Commerce award to Tactical Information Systems for WanderID–biometric matching of fingerprints, palm prints, iris and face images in the cloud–aimed at caregivers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive disorders who have difficulty speaking for themselves in an emergency.
