Dedicated spectrum for medical BAN — good or bad idea?

Only a week ago, our last ‘clash of giants’ was Boeing vs. GE and Philips on a 40 Mhz sliver of spectrum Boeing uses for flight safety testing, and that GE and Philips are demanding be switched to medical body area networks (MBAN). Their argument is essentially no spectrum, no MBAN. Here’s an opposing commentary by Frazer Edwards, who leads the Radio Systems group of Cambridge Consultants (UK). ‘Ring fencing’ spectrum limits system innovation and a greater number of services.  Dedicated spectrum for MBAN–a step forward or backward? Thanks to Paul Williamson of Cambridge for the tip.
