Mayo Clinic, Intel, GE test post-acute monitoring

Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic, Intel and GE Healthcare announced this morning that Mayo Clinic will test the Intel Health Guide as part of a yearlong research study on using remote monitoring as part of reducing hospital readmissions and emergency department visits for patients with chronic diseases.  The study sample takes 200 high-risk patients over 60 in the Rochester, MN area.  Patients will self-monitor vital signs (pulse rate, blood pressure, weight) and respond to questions daily, with review by the clinical care team and the primary care provider to facilitate earlier medical intervention if needed.  The Intel/GE technology also includes telemedicine (videoconferencing) capability.  Release (PDF).
