Implantable defibrillators popular with patients

Biotronik makes an automated, remote implantable cardioverter defibrillator (or maybe it’s the system that controls them, the press release is rather unclear). A large-scale trial of over 1,500 patients being conducted by Tulane University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana has found enough patients, ahead of schedule, that meet the study s enrolment criteria. The willingness of people to participate is taken as an indication that the system could soon become an essential part of patient care. This is good news – as long as the trial outcomes confirm that the system is effective, of course. Press release here.
