Has the healthcare IT (read ‘electronic health records’) market reached its next turning point, as Christine Chang from consultants Ovum suggests? However, she bemoans that vendors are “still using an on-premise model and require licensing fees, while much of the technology world is moving towards cloud computing and software as a service (SaaS)”. Perhaps the reason is that the old model is the purchasing model the organisations understand and are geared up for, and they do not know how to buy or control the costs of SaaS services.
