A very sorry tale indeed: a homecare provider employee fails to make the scheduled visit to a man with dementia who falls and is severely burned. The company makes poor excuses and appears to be disorganised. The man’s daughter commented on the company “As they can’t organise their carers or treat a meeting seriously I worry that it will [happen again]”. However, she praised Kirklees council’s investigating officers. Shepley dementia sufferer left with burns after Domus Healthcare fail to visit 2-page item from Huddersfield Examiner.
This is a clear case where telecare technology could have made a difference, even if the gentleman concerned could not reliably manage a pendant-type alarm. Passive alert devices, a safety confirmation system, or an employee-visit confirmation system could all have picked up much earlier that something was amiss.
